ROV Survey for RIG Taurus
Underwater inspection project with Pertamina Hulu Energi
ROV Survey for RIG Taurus
7-day underwater inspection mission at an offshore oil rig using Remotely Operated Vehicle, in collaboration with Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore.
The Challenge
Following a structural collapse incident at RIG Taurus, Pertamina Hulu Energi needed an underwater assessment of hull conditions and seabed integrity. Manual diver inspection was limited by depth and safety constraints — an 8-thruster ROV was deployed for thorough documentation at 20 meters depth.
What I Did
Served as ROV Pilot and Engineer for the full 7-day survey (August 1–7, 2024), operating the vehicle in real offshore conditions at Madura Strait.
- Piloted ROV across 3 critical inspection points around the rig structure
- Performed pre-dive system checks, calibration, and troubleshooting on control systems, cameras, and sensors
- Captured and analyzed underwater visual data for hull condition assessment
- Trained team members in ROV operation and safety procedures
- Compiled technical reports with findings for Pertamina’s maintenance decision team

Impact
- Identified 3 critical areas around hull and seabed requiring further maintenance attention
- Delivered visual reports used directly by PHE WMO for operational safety evaluation
- Completed all inspection targets within the 7-day timeline with zero incidents
